The art of complaining

Philipians 2: 14 - 15

Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.

I guess this is something that has been burdening my heart for quite some time! As most of you know, I am from Singapore (YEAH!) and Singaporean's national past time is complaining! We complain about EVERYTHING! From the weather to the auntie that was talking too loudly when we were having our prata, to even the PAP govt! If we can't find anything to complain about, we would complain that life is boring and there is nothing to talk about! Yes, I come very much from a complain culture.

In Australia, I guess there are elements of that as well. Within the work place, definitely about the Govt, people just cannot be happy doing their own thing. There has to be an element of 'comparison' in their lives.

I guess the passage aboved has summed up all that I wanted to bring across both in our working/schooling life and even our spiritual life. The Bible is always about absolutes, there is often no middle ground in the exposition of the Word. When it says that without complaining, we shall be blameless and pure, children of God in this wicked generation, you have to wonder, what happens if and when we complain?

It is really my conviction that if we do things whilst complaining, we would lose out on whatever spiritual blessings that is in store for us in heaven and on earth. As it follows on in verse 16, in the end, we all want to boast on the day of Christ, the race we ran with passion, joy and love for Him and Him alone. Let us not let the art of complaining take away that right we have to bask in the Glory of our Saviour!

rhythm
Saturday, July 25, 2009

sorry dear friends, this post iz a little late! x)
so yupp, for the benefit of those who missed our weekly meeting last thursday (: here's a recap!

nooma, a rob bell series of short video clips on biblical principles and values, was featured during the short meeting we had (:

rhythm.
*having a relationship with God is simply about being in tune with the song.

let's elaborate on this.
there were two issues that were covered.
1. Song
song refers to our daily lives in general (:
the song is always playing all the time.

2. Tune
tune refers to the way we choose to live our lives (: the style in which we lead our lives. Jesus iz the way, truth and life. not to start a new religion but to show us an example of how to lead our lives. a relationship with God was illustrated to as a song, He is the main tune like the piano that played throughout the whole song piece. we on the other hand are the instruments that compliment that tune. when we strum accordingly, joining in with the tune, it brings about a melody. a song of unity, harmony, strength and power, one that iz even more beautiful than an individual component on it's own (:

but when we choose to play our own music, choose to disregard that tune and follow our own tune.. it's a racket, not music.

so friends,
think about it..
what tune are you playing right now?
how does God's tune sound like to you?

what more can we want if we can know the tune of God and follow it.
see you in church! :D

Thought of the day

Hey guys!

Hope school is treating you well... :) To all those that are trying hard to make cow sense of the first few weeks of lecture.... well... ask the mother cow... or water buffalo! (Erm... RAndom!)

Anyways, something that was shared on sunday afternoon whilst I was in leaders meeting and you guys were either eating MORE food in Boxhill or having those wonderful afternoon naps (Gee.... I miss those) was this

For those who have joined a church, you would sometimes feel the need to be part of a ministry in order to grow, or you feel the overarching need to DO SOMETHING for God so that you feel useful or maybe even repaying God the debt of Him saving you.

Firstly, what was shared in sunday morning should be something we all remember. God saved us, to set us FREE!! Yes! The story of the slave girl was really impactful, and I feel its something we all have to come to realise. However, it was the reaction of the slave girl that touched my heart. And that is, because you have set me free, I will WANT to work for Him the rest of my life. When we serve God, let us not look to the left or to the right, but focus solely on Him and our gratitude to Him.

Secondly, in afternoon meeting, Ps TT Quah shared of how ministry should not be my life, in a sense where we get busy doing things for God, running CCM counter or serving in Life group.
Rather, my life is my ministry to the people around me! In this, it is more than just skill development of yourselves, to worship better, or to play guitar better. Even more so, it is the development of Christlikeness in our actions thoughts and deeds, the development of our character.
If we have Jesus in our hearts, all of our resultant action will be a NATURAL reaction of wanting to imitate the likeness of Christ. We will not think twice of giving of our time, effort or energy, or even money. It becomes our 2nd nature to seek first the Kingdom of God!

So guys, let me encourage you to put Jesus first in all things that you do. You are FREE to do anything, but IF you were to let God shape your character and transform your life, I can confirm plus chop that it will be a lifelong journey of exciting encounters that only God can bring you on!

Sharing with Keith

[Acts 2:42-47]
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

3 Things about God's community

1. They are united in spiritual activities
Eg. eating(breaking of bread!), fellowship

Therefore, seek forth to be united in seeking after a common goal - in the seeking and knowing who God iz. Not forgetting that fellowship is important. Moving in a same direction in unity -unity around God's vision, the Word of God, through close fellowship and the encouraging of one another (:

2. There is power in God's community
Your expectation determines the level you hit.
Eg. If you aim to just pass your exams, you usually fail :p

In Christ, the aura of expectation is predetermined by your understanding and experience of God, indicating the level you hit.

Therefore, challenge yourself to have a higher and deeper understanding of God, giving rise to you being a person of impact and change. When we are open to Him, God will challenge our understanding. And thus, when we decide to take in that spiritual food, it is only natural that we grow - spiritually in understanding and thereafter, raising the ceiling of expectations we have of and in Christ.

3. Sharing brings growth

At the end of the day, seek to bring the blessings and love of Christ to the people. It's not about being loyal to the club, CCM, it's about being God-loyal (:

Have a great weekend!
See you in church! :D
